Wednesday, June 6th, 1866: The baseball career of Cullen Addison is over. A Savanna doctor clarified earlier comments about the 24-year-old shortstop.
"Cullen suffered a torn Labrum which is a serious injury to the shoulder joint. He will not be able to play baseball again" the doctor explained sadly.
Though he had spoken optimistically about playing again, Addison informed the team that he has decided to retire. It is a sad day for Savanna -- a sad day for those who had hoped that Addison would return.
This year Addison has hit at a .310 clip with 9 hits, no home runs, 3 RBIs and 4 runs scored.
"He was definitely a good player." said his coach General Archibald "His potential was unlimited. This is a shame indeed." |

Friday, June 1st, 1866: The MSL teams take the day off to travel to their next destination and reflect on their first series of games. The first place Sailors have the longest river trip leaving from their home in Savanna and heading south to Saint Louis.
The Sailors stand undefeated and in first place after a 4 game sweep of the Quincy Colonels. Wright Kay stated "There have been some issues between me and "The General" [Manager Robert Archibald] and some personal issues for Rodney [Ott] but we are winning and that is all that matters...I guess"
The Saint Louis Steamers who stand in second place stay home and wait for the front running Sailors. After losing the Opening Day game to the Twains, the Steamers have won 3 consecutive games. The matchup between Savanna and Saint Louis should be an interesting and quality 4 game series.
The Colonels head back home to Quincy to await their cross river rivals, the Hannibal Twains. Both teams are frustrated and sitting together at the bottom of the league with only 1 win between them. That frustration has led to the loss of Twain's pitcher Austin Bristow who injured hiis hand while slamming things around in the dugout. In 3 starts, Bristow has a record of no wins and two losses.
Gore Ford laughed "The good thing aout the two worst teams playing each other, someones gotta win"

There have been scattered reports of players talking about experiencing Deja vu or supernatural forces while travelling the river between series. Some players have claimed to have already played the upcoming series and yet here they are just beginning their new series.
"I saw the future out there." explained Cy love of the Saint Louis Steamers "And it wasn't pretty. Savanna took the first two games against us and they were looking unbeatable. Yet here I am...about to take the field for our first game against them." Cy paused and scratched his chin. "I'm not sure if it was Deja vu or a dream...or maybe it was the whiskey...but it feels strange."
It certainly wasn't the whiskey as Cy Love was not the only one to experience this phenomena. Corbinian Fux stated "I won't look at the Mighty Miss the same way again. She has plans for us whether we agree or not."
Rodney Ott of the first place Sailors said "I thinks it was Grandma Ott speaking to me from Heaven. Showing me that this team can't lose."
Nanuk Feather of the Steamers claimed "There is powerful spirit on river. We are just vessels for it to play with."
"It is most certainly God...giving us a glimpse of our journey. Showing us that the MSL is good and it has a future." praised Moses Rigsby, manager of the Hannibal Twains. "He is watching over us...protecting us on our river travels"
The founder of the MSL, Cleveland Jones, made the most bold statement of the experience. "It just made me feel fictional...like...like I didn't really create this league...someone else did. I feel like I could be deleted at any moment. It makes me realize I need to cherish each day like it was my last." |

Tuesday, May 29th, 1866: Gore Ford came in as a defensive replacement and in his one at bat became the first player to homer in the MSL when he slapped a Austin Bristow pitch 391 feet clearing the right field wall. Surprising to some however was the early exit of Ellery Ray who was yanked in the 5th inning despite a commanding 4 to 1 lead. No one in the orginization would comment on the status of Ray who did not qualify for a win because he didn't complete 5 innings. |
